TCFUA Advocacy and Support Project for Workers Retrenched from Blundstone Report, December 2008
In 2007, Blundstone Australia retrenched 224 workers from the boots manufacturing sector in Hobart, Tasmania. The TCFUA, with the financial assistance of Blundstone, set up and managed an Advocacy and Support project which provided pre- and post-retrenchment information, support and advocacy and ensured that workers undertook a process of serious re-skilling and re-training. From this project emerged a Community Arts Project commemorating decades of work at Blundstone and giving workers the chance to tell and share the stories of their working lives at Blundstone in an exhibition called Stitch and Sole. This report evaluates both the Advocacy and Support project and the Arts project.
