Benefits of Trade Union Membership:
Being a member of a Union means that you have the support of a whole team of people who work exclusively for the benefit of Clothing, Textile and Footwear workers. Union officials are trained to be experts in Industrial Relations, Occupational Health and Safety and negotiation at the workplace level to resolve problems and negotiate on behalf of workers.
Unions bring a crucial balance to worksites and to the broader industrial community, representing not only the rights of workers, but their point of view in difficult situations. Having someone on your side who knows and understands the laws and has experience handling negotiations is a great support for workers. Particularly if you have a problem at work and don't feel you have enough knowledge to put your own point of view.
In the worst case scenario Union officials help workers reclaim unpaid wages and access the GEERS scheme if an employer suddenly folds up or fails to honour their legal commitments to workers. Our Union officials have recovered hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid wages and benefits for workers over the past few years alone.
